The Best Damn Dog Bed Co. - FAQ's

  • Isn't your name a little too long?
You can't rush perfection. Sure it takes awhile to write it out, but we make the best damn dog beds available and the only way to convey that was with a name that says what we are - The Bed Damn Dog Bed Company! Although now that you mention it...it does get annoying typing that out every time...and coordinating holding down the shift key to get the capitalizations...maybe we should shorten it to BDDB Co...If you see BDDB on our site, just know that I decided to make that change halfway through designing the site and was tired of typing it out every time.
  • What makes your bed so special?
You should check out our product descriptions, the about us page or even the information on our homepage.
  • But I'm here now, can't you just tell me?
If you really insist: Foam has two measurable specifications when it is manufactured. IFD (measured in the amount of force used to compress the foam, aka how firm it is) and density (measured in pounds per cubic foot). Generally, IFD does not have an impact on the quality of the foam, only its comfort. Density, however, has a significant impact on durability. The higher the density, the more durable the foam (and also the more expensive it is). Most dog beds on the market, especially those that you will find on the shelf at pet stores and at your favorite ABC internet retailer, will be using a lower cost product that is somewhere between a 1lb and a 1.5lb. These products can be mass produced quickly and cheaply and left on a shelf in a warehouse. Many of them will even put the foam through an inexpensive process called convoluting, which produces an egg crate pattern, and call it orthopedic foam. The truth is, there is nothing orthopedic about a convoluted piece of foam, it just has a different shape. It is not any cooler. It is not any more supportive. Here at BDDB, we have opted to use the highest density foam available for this type of application - 2.5lb. Most major brand mattress manufacturers won't even use this foam in their $2,000+ beds because it lasts too long. And we are only using this foam to provide some height and structural support to the overall bed. If you have made it this far, congratulations! I will now let you in on the secret that makes our bed so special - it is the top 2" layer, which is made of a product that was scientifically designed to provide consistent support while simultaneously providing pressure relief. Some of our competitors will try to lure you in with "pressure relieving" memory foam - but memory foam provides no support whatsoever. Support without pressure relief is uncomfortable, just as much as pressure relief without support. Our foam strikes the perfect balance and provides support where it is needed and pressure relief in the areas that need it.
  • Why can't you ship my bed faster?
All of our beds are made to order - that is, we do not have an inventory to pull from. We do not make anything until we have an order. This allows us to make sure your bed is freshly made and not sitting on a shelf collecting dust.
  • How do I care for my dog bed?
The cover is made of a material that is water resistant, so you should be able to clean up spills and accidents relatively easily, provided you did so shortly after the "incident". Use standard fabric care - mild detergent and water and let it air dry. Always test for color fastness first on the bottom or some other place that wont be seen. We have also designed the bed cover to be removeable and washable. Let it air dry to be safe, as any shrinking will make putting the cover back on bed that much more of a challenge.
  • Can I put my dog bed in the dryer if it gets wet?
NO! Do not introduce your bed to any external source of extreme heat. While the foam inside is completely safe to sleep on and be around for both you and your dog, government regulations prevent manufacturers from placing any fire retardant chemicals in any foam being used in consumer applications. While we are on the topic, keep the bed away from any fireplace that may produce sparks.
